SkillsUSA: Champions at Work

Kendrick HS Conducts Operation Cards4Heros

The Kendrick High School SkillsUSA chapter conducted Operation Cards4Heroes from November 9-December 4, 2007.  Chapter members collected Christmas cards that were sent to troops deployed overseas.  Laketa Lewis, junior, and LeArmie James, senior, created holiday cards and printed them in their graphic communications class.  Students were asked to sign the cards or make cards during lunch on November 9 in honor of Veterans Day.  Many students and faculty members also brought in cards.  On Saturday, December 1, the SkillsUSA chapter setup a table at Hollywood Connection where they made cards and had customers sign cards.

The chapter collected 1814 cards that were sent to the troops.  People in the community shared addresses of loved ones that are deployed.  Cards were also sent to the SkillsUSA’s adopted platoon from Fort Benning that chapter members have been sending care packages to since they were deployed in March.

Liz Gasper, daughter Liberty, and cousin Conner came out to show support for the SkillsUSA project.  They made cards for Liz’s husband who is deployed and a member of  Kendrick SkillsUSA’s adopted platoon.

SkillsUSA members collected cards and signatures from Hollywood Connection’s customers on December 1.

Children and adults were eager to stop by sign a card of make their own card.
