Trenesia Williams, State South Region Vice President – State Officer Journal Entry January, 2008 Trenesia . . . . My Life as a SkillsUSA Georgia State Officer My state officer experience has been great! The opportunities that I have encountered will surely last a lifetime. This year has been hectic from the beginning to now. We have traveled to Covington, Georgia for the CTSO Winter and Summer Training where I developed a tight bond with my fellow officers. Our other events included trips to Kansas City, Missouri for SkillsUSA Nationals, Forsyth, Georgia for our first Executive Council Meeting, Washington, D.C. for the SkillsUSA Washington Leadership Training Institute, Dillard, Georgia/Maggie Valley, North Carolina for our big ski trip, and Newnan, Georgia for the TIEGA Winter Conference. In addition to these trips, my favorite had to be the Fall Leadership Conference in Jekyll Island, Georgia. I had so much fun getting to know our Georgia Delegation. There have been things that I have done that I never thought that I would ever get to do. Our upcoming events include the CTSO Legislative Breakfast in February and the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference in April. I am anticipating these trips because I am sure that they, like all before them, will prove to be life changing. This year has been crazy with all the changes and school absences and traveling but I would not trade this experience for anything in the world. I love being a SkillsUSA Georgia State Officer! July, 2007 The National Conference was great! This year was my first year there and it was better than I could ever have imagined. With all the wild and crazy excitement of the week, I had the greatest time ever! I met many different people from all around the country, even Alaska (and no, there are no Eskimos or igloos). I got the opportunity to bond with my fellow officers for eight days. I got to know them on a personal and professional level. We learned things about each other that you never would know just by looking at them. We had a wonderful time. I wouldn’t have traded that experience for anything in the world. I didn’t want it to end! Now that it’s over, I know that this will be an experience I will never forget. June 10, 2007
When I first heard that I was going to be going to a leadership training workshop, I thought that it was going to be a couple of seminars and maybe a couple of group activities. I never thought that it was going to be so much fun. Of course, there were a few seminars and team building exercises. But there were a lot of fun and exciting events such as the ropes course and the Olympics in which we were challenged both mentally and physically. Camp was so much fun! I really enjoyed the ropes course. I would not have thought that in a million years I would climb a wall and get all muddy for my teammates. Meeting the members of the other CTSO’s was truly a breathtaking experience. I meet and made so many new friends to last me a lifetime. Coming to camp this weekend gave me the opportunity to get to know my fellow officers in such a way that we are now becoming a family. This camp experience has left a mark on me that will last a lifetime. My fellow SkillsUSA Georgia State Officers and I now have a bond that can never be broken. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for my new family and me.
