State Officer Insider

Get an insider look of what it is like to be a SkillsUSA Georgia State Officer! Being a State Officer is a ton of hard work, but it all pays off when we hang out together and get to have fun as a team.

Sareena Lidhar

Q: What's your favorite show on Netflix?

A: My favorite show has to be Gossip girl. It used to be on Netflix until they took it off. It will forever be one of the best shows. I fell in love with New York City after watching it.

Q: What is one thing that you can't live without?

A: I cannot now live without the best friends I've made this year within my state office team. These people have become a part of my family. We all are constantly laughing and helping each other when one of us needs it. Every trip we take is always a good time. I wouldn't have ever imagined the friendships I would have gained from being a state officer.

Q: If you were an animal what kind of animal would you be?

A: I would be a golden-doodle dog, I feel like that type of dog is very me. Goldendoodles are sweet and love people but can be feisty when they need to be.

Q: What's your favorite tv show/movie?

A: One of my favorite shows at the moment is The Voice. As a huge pop music fan, two of my favorite artists are Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas, and those two artists served as coaches on the show recently. Seeing them and also the contestants grow on the show as performers is really inspiring.

Q: What is your favorite memory of your teammates?

A: At FLC when the officers were switching rooms, I entered Darlyn’s room and saw members all over the place. Some were dancing, some were outside on the balcony, and others were crowding around the center. I entered the room and asked “What’s going on, it’s WILD in here. Where is your officer at?” Then one of the members pointed toward the crowd in the center, I turned my head and saw Darlyn in the middle of 15 people. It was so funny to witness her in the center being trampled and she replied with “we’re doing leadership games, DUH!” I will never forget that moment.

Q: Favorite late night snack?

A: Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches

Raven Ridley

Q: What is something that makes you laugh?

A: I am constantly laughing but the things that make me laugh the most are the memories that I make with my friends. They are always making me laugh with small inside jokes, late night jam sessions and the spontaneous fun we get into.

Q: Who is the goofiest person on your team?

A: While we are all goofy in our own way, Jojo tends to stand out among the bunch. He constantly keeps a smile on everyone's face.

Q: What are your interests/hobbies?

A: My hobbies are constantly bouncing around but they mostly consist of anything that strengthens my creativity. I really liked painting for a while, then I started making pottery, then I began crocheting, and we’ll see what comes next. At the moment I’m really into puzzles so my living room floor is constantly covered in random pieces that I know are meticulously placed.

Q: What’s something about you that surprises people?

A: It is very very obvious that I’m short, but I don’t think people realize how short I am. People are always shocked when I tell them I’m not even 5 feet tall. I am a whole 4 feet and 10 inches (and a half!). I can still have a growth spurt… right?

Q: What’s one phrase you wish people would stop saying?

A: My name is Darlyn, pronounced like “oh my darlin’. I am constantly confused when people address each other as darlin’, especially since we’re in the south. When unfamiliar faces call me “darlin”, I can never tell if it is because they know me, or are just calling me darling. It doesn’t help that I have a bad memory and easily forget faces. The phrase “darlin” is cute but I wish I had a way to differentiate it from my name so I wasn’t so confused all the time.

Ambuja Sharma

Q: Favorite song/album to listen to?

A: My absolute favorite song to listen to is “The Spins” by Mac Miller. Mac is one of my favorite artists of all time, and the feeling of nostalgia I get listening to “The Spins” while driving hits different!

Q: What’s your best “my teammates are crazy” story?

A: FLC this year happened to be during Game 6 of the World Series, arguably the most important game in Atlanta Braves history. We had a bonfire scheduled for the night of the game, so instead of missing the bonfire or not watching the game, we sat in front of the fire on that cold November night, with the game pulled up on a hotspot. As we cheered the Braves on, had sidebar convos about the type of candies we were, and watched the fire, I looked around and realized my teammates were the good type of “crazy”.

Q: If you were a candy, what kind of candy would you be?

A: If I were a candy, I’d be a sour patch kid! It’s a classic choice, but not a basic one. I also think it’s the best of both worlds- both sour and sweet. I think it accurately represents my sarcastic side, but also my empathy and kindness!

Joseph Jacobson

Q: What's your favorite book?

A: As a social studies nerd, and a nerd in general, Conquests and Cultures is my favorite book.

Q: What is your hidden talent?

A: Music in general; most people don’t expect me to be a musician.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A:Vermont, because it’s very nice.
