Skillls Challenges

SkillsUSA Georgia and the Associated General Contractors of Georgia are excited to share a new opportunity that both of our organizations are embracing to help bring more opportunities for construction students to compete for bids to the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership & Skills Conference (SLSC) in February 2024.

SkillsUSA students will now compete at the AGC Georgia Skills Challenges (event dates) as their bid to SkillsUSA Georgia's SLSC.

An Exciting New Partnership

Skills Challenges Details

Competitions

SkillsUSA students will now compete at the AGC Georgia Skills Challenges as their bid to SkillsUSA Georgia's SLSC. While membership in SkillsUSA Georgia is not a requirement for competing in the AGC Georgia Skills Challenge series, students who hold a membership are afforded an opportunity to qualify in the core six construction trade competitions:

  • Carpentry

  • Electrical Construction Wiring

  • Masonry

  • Plumbing

  • TeamWorks

  • Welding

This new arrangement will allow more students per school the opportunity to compete regionally for a bid to SLSC and will allow for more competition spots at SLSC.

TeamWorks Qualifying Announcement

When competing at your AGC Alliance HOME region, teachers have the OPTION to register their 2nd competitor in Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, and Plumbing as a member of the four-student TeamWorks team. Their individual skill performances scores will be averaged together as their TeamWorks team score. The first place team from each Alliance will advance to SLSC.

Students designated as TeamWorks contestants in the Alliance registration are NOT eligible to advance in their individual category (carpentry, electrical, masonry or plumbing) should their team NOT earn first place in the TeamWorks scoring. However, their scores will be used to identify the Alliance Cup winning team for this specific event.

TeamWorks Online Testing

At the conclusion of the Skills Challenges, SkillsUSA Georgia will open up online testing to previously registered TeamWorks teams that did not place first at their Alliance. Teams are encouraged to take the online exam (just like in previous years) to qualify for the remaining two TeamWorks team slots at SLSC

Testing dates are Wednesday, November 29th - Wednesday, December 13th. The winners will be announced on Friday, December 15th.
